Recently, I have come to realize even more just how important it is to put paintings in the right place and around the right, somewhat similiar paintings. I have done a few exhibitions already and it dawned on me that it is paramount for the person who is acquiring a painting of mine to be sure that it would make them feel the right way in their space.
I have had my paintings exhibited in really clean and beautiful spaces like in The gallery of the National bank of Slovakia, but even some spaces that were more DIY-ish, like The Domof Creativity, where I had an exhibition recently. Spaces like these can have a certain vibe about them that is maybe not luxurious, but attractive in a different, grunge way. What is more, my curator, Sofiya Zelenkevich, was helping me arrange them and hang them. We spent quite some time on this task, moving things around, swapping them, looking at them, changing them up, so we would find the layout that really creates the right impression, a harmonious whole, which we finally did, and I was so pleased with the result. On the contrary, I have even declined exhibiting in a certain space and that was because if I put my paintings there, they would lose a lot of their charm, because the space was almost falling apart, the colors all around weren´t right and it was also poorly lit.
I have also exhibited in group exhibitions several times and I must say that I was sometimes not that satisfied. It´s almost as though my painting was hung around other paintings which were so drastically different, that my painting and the other paintings stopped looking like artwork and started looking like a mess instead. It´s a bit like putting together an outfit of clothes that are beautiful, but don´t go together, it ruins their look and you can no longer focus on their beauty. Another example I could give is when a person wears colors that don´t suit them. The colors on their own might be beautiful, but when we look at these colors when that particular person is wearing them, we think they are hideous. You get the point. Everything needs to be put in it´s right place in order to truly shine.
The same principle applies to paintings in homes. I have come to see this in our own home. When I put a painting in a room which´s aesthetic, colors and size did not work well with a particular painting, the painting almost looked like clutter. Here is an example:
You can see all the clutter that is all around and also the color of the wall that doesn´t match at all. All the pleasure from viewing the painting suddenly goes away.
On the other hand, if I put the painting in the correct room (like the picture on the top of the page), it made it feel more alive, as though it added a whole new personality to it. This is why I can 100% understand the hesitation that people have when purchasing original artwork, especially online. It is a huge commitment and it´s a bit like buying shoes without trying them on.
That´s why I figured out that if you really love any of my paintings and would love to have it in your home, you can try it for up to 4 months so you don´t feel rushed with your decision and if you then decide that you would like to return it, I will make that possible and I will return your money, as long as the painting comes back to me without being damaged. You can not only return it, but you can also exchange it with a different piece that you think might be better suited. The possibility of exchanging, however, doesn´t apply only for the duration of 4 months. It applies for the rest of your (or my) life. You can find a new piece of mine that you would like to have instead of the old, and you can have that, as long as the new piece is similiar or hiher price as the one you have (you would pay the difference in the price if the price was higher).
In case you are not sure about where to place the painting or if some other paintings that you have or want to have are going to fit together, perhaps you can call a friend who you know has a feeling for aesthetics, or you can even send me pictures and I will try to help you.
I hope that my painting will give your home the most beautiful and magical vibe.
